The Mayor of London, as the Local Planning Authority, hereby grants planning permission for the following development, in accordance with the terms of the above mentioned application (which expression shall include the drawings and other documents submitted therewith):

Conservation area consent for the demolition White’s Row multi-storey car park, 99-101 Commercial Street (Barclays Bank branch), 54 Brushfield Street (The Gun public house), partial demolition of the London Fruit & Wool Exchange behind the retained Brushfield Street facade.

In dealing with this application, the Mayor of London, as the local planning authority, has worked with the applicant and Tower Hamlets Council in a positive and proactive manner in order to resolve the planning issues associated with the case.
 
 
 
Secretary of State Eric Pickles this month refused an application by the City of London and Henderson Global Investors to demolish a part of Smithfield known as the Western Market and build office blocks. Using strong terms, Mr Pickles said the proposed development would cause “substantial harm to the significance of the Smithfield conservation area”, and praised alternative proposals supported by conservation groups.
